My name is Rio Waller and I'll be your professor for the next 18
weeks, our class officially starts on Monday August 16, 2010 and it' s
important that you and your computer are ready to GO! Our Blackboard
course is now available, your username and password will generally be
your Student ID. Once you log into Blackboard you should review the
syllabus and then click on ToDo's to start looking at Week 1 work.
This course has a very long waiting list and I want to give students
that are waiting an opportunity to take this class, so it's VERY
important that enrolled students complete the following requirement by
5pm on Monday 8/16/2010 to remain in the course:
1. Login into Blackboard - find our course listed under the "My Courses tab"
2. Review the syllabus and Week 1 items (click on ToDo's to see Week 1 work - there are several items inside Week 1)
3.
Reply to this message letting me know if you are still interested in
taking this course and what is due for Week 1, you can reply to this
message anytime between now and Monday (8/16/10).
If I don't hear from enrolled students by Monday 8/16/2010 at 5pm
then I will drop them as a no-show and give students on the waiting
list an opportunity to take this course. Now I hope all enrolled
students are still interested and excited to take this course, so make
sure you complete this requirement.
I look forward to our time together, let's make this fun for all of us!
Rio Waller
CIT Professor
Fresno City College
UPDATE 08/09/10: Our Blackboard course will be available sometime this week, so it's a good ideal to make sure you can login into
Blackboard
use your Student ID (make sure you include the zero at the beginning)
and generally your Student ID is also your default password and I'll
cover how to change this during Week 1 video(s). Here is the syllabus
for the
Fall 2010 CIT12 course, if you have any questions regarding our course make sure to use my course email - riowaller@gmail.com.
I will be sending out a message when the Blackboard course is
available, it will be VERY important that you received this email
message, because you will need to reply to the message to remain in the
course. See information below on how to setup your required email
accept for Fresno City College.
WAIT LISTED STUDENTS
I will be offering add codes to the first 5 students on the waiting
list, you will received an email from me (riowaller@gmail.com) before
the semester begins on Monday (08/16/10) so make sure you look for that
message. I will only be adding additional students if enrolled students
are marked as non-shows.
UPDATE 06/24/10: Just wanted to give you all some
additional information regarding our Fall 2010 CIT12 Computer Literacy
class. The required materials are a textbook (Using Information Technology 9e Complete Edition) and Simnet for Office 2007.
Both can be purchased at the campus bookstore or online, but make sure
to get them by the first week of class. VERY IMPORTANT is the new email
accounts required for FCC students, this is even MORE important for
online students, I have created a short video to walk you thru the
process of creating your email account, check it out.
I will generally send out a "Welcome Message" in the beginning of
August and this message will be sent to this new email account
(lastname_studentid@my.scccd.edu) so it is VERY important you get this
message, so make sure you get this email setup.
UPDATE 04/29/10: As of today both classes are full,
you are welcome to get on the waiting list. Some students may drop this
class before the semester starts and the students on the waiting list
are processed by first come first serve, meaning the further up on the
list you are the better your chances to get into the class, I will be
adding a few students (from the waiting list at the beginning of the
Fall Semester). Make SURE to register early for online classes in the future, they fill very quickly.
I will be updating this course over the Summer 2010 and will add
more information regarding the requirements, but you can see the
Syllabus from a previous semester below. At this point make sure you
have created your email account for Fresno City College (click here for more information).
All communications with the campus and this online course will be done
with that email address. I will be recording a video soon to walk
students thru the process of setting up their my.scccd.edu accounts.
You are welcome to email me (riowaller@gmail - copy this email address
into your email) any questions you may have before then.
Spring 2010 (CIT-12-24896 COMPUTER LITERACY)
UPDATE 01/14/10: This class is full and I will NOT
be adding any more students, please register early for online classes
in the future, they fill very quickly.
UPDATE 11/20/09:
This course is listed as FULL in Webadvisor, in additional the waiting
list is FULL. You are welcome to check Webadvisor to see if someone
drops, but make sure you understand how I add students from the waiting
list (see below)
For the Spring semester there will be only one section of CIT12
Computer Literacy online for Fresno City College, so make sure you
enroll in the class as soon as possible, because it will fill very
quickly. I will be adding more information about this course as we get
close to the Spring 10 semester, what is most important is to have a
current email account and to make sure that email is up-to-date in both
WebAdvisor and Blackboard.
If you are enrolled, then make
sure you check your email first thing on the first day of the semester,
because I will be sending out a message that morning on what you need
to do to make sure you are NOT marked as a NO-SHOW and therefore
dropped from the course, so make sure (again) your email in Blackboard
is up-to-date.
If you are on the waitlist, here is how I
handle the waitlist: I will only be adding 10 students from the
waitlist and only those students that respond to a message I send out a
week before the class starts will be given this opportunity, so (again)
make sure you email in Webadvisor is up-to-date so you get this very
important message.
If you have additional questions about this course, you can email me riowaller@gmail.com
(copy this into a new email). As an online student it is VERY important
that you read all the information provided here because it will answer
MOST questions I get from students.
About CIT12 Online
Students
often want to know about the course before they enroll, or they are
enrolled and want to know what will be covered in the class. To answer
most of these questions I will provide the Fall 2009 syllabus, which will be very much like the Spring 2010 syllabus.
One important part of this class will be watching video, so here is a link to the course overview
for the Fall 09 class. I provide this link for two reasons: first it is
a good way to see if your computer is able to review the video and
second to give you more information on how the course is structured. I
will be making some changes to the course for the Spring 2010, but 90%
of what is in this video will be the same for the Spring class.
